AltSpace VR is a free virtual universe where you can hang out with friends or meet new people, attend shows, play games, take a class, go to church, and explore a variety of digital worlds. There’s a lot of cool stuff in here, but the user interface is a bit frustrating and lacks clarity. If you can get past that and figure out how to move around, you’re sure to find something you enjoy.
The developer (owned by Microsoft) offers “AltSpace VR 101” intro sessions every now and then, which are a great way to start to orient yourself. Another good event for beginners is a lesson called “It’s Flight Time” in which you’ll learn how to fly around the worlds you visit.
You can find these sessions, as well as a ton of other events, in one of two ways:
- We find the easiest way is to login to your AltSpace account on your computer at https://account.altvr.com/events/all. Here you can easily browse events or search for something in particular. Click the RSVP button to save the event. When it’s time, go into the app in your headset, select Events in the navigation bar, and then you’ll find the saved events under “Interested”.
- You can also browse for events directly within the app, where you can browse for All events, events This Week, or events By Category.
